Planning for the future is an essential step in safeguarding your assets and ensuring that your wishes are respected. At T.G. Collins Solicitors, located in both Chelmsford and Benfleet, we provide professional and compassionate assistance with setting up a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA). This legal arrangement allows you to appoint someone you trust to make important decisions on your behalf, should you ever become unable to do so yourself.
A Lasting Power of Attorney is a legal document that allows you to appoint someone, or more than one person, to make important decisions in the future, whether you are physically or mentally incapacitated, so that you can be sure that the right decisions will be made on your behalf.
There are two types of Lasting Power of Attorney:
Financial Affairs: covering your property and bank accounts and investments.
Health and Wealth Welfare Decisions: to include the use of antibiotics to surgery and whether the care home is appropriate.
The difference between a Will and Lasting Power of Attorney is that a Will takes effect when you die, and a LPA takes effect whilst you are living.
If you’re combining Wills with your LPA’s, then we can discuss a fixed fee package.

With years of experience in lasting power of attorney paperwork, our team at T.G. Collins is dedicated to providing a seamless experience. We make sure all legal requirements are met and help you select the right people for these critical responsibilities.
Key Benefits of a Lasting Power of Attorney

It may be that you have suffered a serious brain injury, illness or dementia and don’t have a Lasting Power of Attorney. It does not mean that it’s too late to help. We can help apply for Deputyship at the Court of Protection and your appointed Deputy can act on your behalf when it comes to property, financial affairs and personal welfare.
Don’t leave decisions to chance – it is far better to have peace of mind with a Lasting Power of Attorney.

Often referred to as a “living Will”, Lasting Powers of Attorneys allows you to appoint one or more (up to four) people as your attorneys to help you make decisions or make decisions on your behalf should you lose mental capacity to make certain decisions for yourself. Without this documentation in place, your loved ones cannot act on your behalf.
There are two Lasting Power of Attorneys which can be put in place; in relation to your Health and Welfare, and in relation to your Property and Financial Affairs. We will advise you on the implications of appointing attorneys to make financial decisions on your behalf and on the appointment of attorneys to make decisions about your health and welfare.
We will explain the implications and the process of establishing the appointment of your attorneys through the Court of Protection and the Office of the Public Guardian. We will prepare a notice of intention to apply for the registration of a Lasting Power of Attorney, as is required, and correspond with your proposed attorneys. We will provide the certificate in relation to the Prescribed Information and make the application(s) to the Office of the Public Guardian. On receipt of the registered copies, we will advise you accordingly.
There are many factors to consider when making Lasting Power of Attorneys so please contact us to arrange an initial consultation with our team.

EXCELLENT Based on 262 reviews Posted on Google CamranTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. T.G. Collins Solicitors were excellent as the conveyancers, in the sale of my apartment. I cannot recommend Calum highly enough, as he ensured the sale completed in ~3 months, despite a large number of enquiries that were received from the other side.Posted on Google Mark StockTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Done work quickly with very good communication. I would use again.Posted on Google Jenny TullisTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My partner sold his property recently and Calum acted in the sale. There were a couple of hiccups that cropped up but these were all dealt with and sorted. Calum was always available on the phone and, if not, returned calls quickly. Would recommend TG Collins and thanks, Calum, for pushing the sale through to completion.Posted on Google Claire SteffTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. T G Collins (Calum in particular) was incredible throughout the sale of my property. He kept me fully informed and got back to me extremely quickly for a very speedy transaction. Highly recommend. Thank you ☺️Posted on Google Leighton HeadTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I couldn’t recommend Jigy at TG Collins enough, no question was left unanswered and no request too much. Very diligent and efficient service. Thanks again.Posted on Google Neil HealeyTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I sent a conveyancing quote enquiry online to this firm then after 2-days with zero response I rang them on Friday 13 March 2026 and was told no-one free to talk to me but someone would call me back by 5.30pm... shock horror1.... no-one ever called back. Such poor service; probably a sign. Accepted a quote from another firm on Duke Street, Chelsmford. Would not recommend this firm in my experience as really poor service.Posted on Google Mark de RozarioTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Would highly recommend Chloe and this company. Chloe has been on the ball all the way through. Her communication has been excellent. This is the second dealing we have asked TG Collins to act on for us. Would not hesitate to use again.Posted on Google Darren de RozarioTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Thank you for sorting everything out so efficiently and nicely for us. Chloe Golding, you are amazing and you will go far. I have this morning recommended you to a colleague and I’ll be in touch if she decides to go ahead thank youDarren de RozarioPosted on Google Stephen ProleTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I used to work as a mortgage adviser and have dealt with many conveyancers over the years and it was very difficult to remember a good one! I decided in the end to choose these guys based on cost and reviews and was glad I did. My sale was a bit complex and the buyer's solicitor was useless but Mafruha, Mindi and Calum worked efficiently to get it over the line.
