Note: From 6 April 2022 England and Wales has a new divorce law, so-called no-fault. It is the most significant change since 1969. It introduces an entirely new basis of obtaining a divorce and a new timetable. It will have different consequences for the parties. It allows joint petitions and joint applications for the final divorce. Rules will provide for email as default service method. In any event, divorce itself is now an almost entirely online process.

Steps for filing divorce in the UK

Understanding the Process: Filing for divorce in the UK involves several steps, each designed to ensure a fair and legal resolution to the marriage. Here’s an overview:

Eligibility: Before filing for divorce, you must meet certain eligibility criteria, including being legally married for at least one year and proving that your marriage has irretrievably broken down.
Grounds for Divorce: In the UK, there is only one ground for divorce: the irretrievable breakdown of the marriage. This can be proven through one of five facts: adultery, unreasonable behavior, desertion, two years of separation with consent, or five years of separation without consent.
Filing the Divorce Petition: The first step in the process is to file a divorce petition with the court. This document outlines the details of the marriage, the grounds for divorce, and any proposed arrangements for children and finances.
Acknowledgment of Service: Once the petition is filed, it must be served to the other spouse, who then has the opportunity to respond by completing an acknowledgment of service form.
Decree Nisi: If both parties agree to the divorce, and the court is satisfied with the arrangements for children and finances, a decree nisi will be granted. This is a provisional decree of divorce, which can become absolute after six weeks.
Decree Absolute: After six weeks and one day from the decree nisi, either party can apply for a decree absolute, which officially ends the marriage.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Sold my house through TGC. Went with them as they were competitive against other online conveyancing solicitors but also had an office in my town so gave me more confidence. Whilst all started and ended well, the communication in between wasn't so great with a lot of chasing. Estate agent kept me more informed about Exchange date than TGC did despite a month of chasing which was obviously very frustrating.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I was looking into the Innovator Founder route because of my business plans and wasn't sure how to present my work and experience properly. The guidance from Migrantminds helped me organise my ideas and understand what parts of my professional background were worth highlighting.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. T. G. Collins, specifically Chloe, helped us sell our father's house in what seamed like impossible timelines requested by the buyer. I cannot thank them enough and still can't quite believe what was achieved in the last week to get the sale through, all charges and costs paid and the proceeds transferred.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. The quote for services was highly competitive and their work swift and very responsive - having used a traditional face to face solicitor for multiple properties over the years, and used an on line one to sell my fathers property this was an extremely positive experience and I wouldn’t hesitate
To use them again and highly recommend.
